I had a local shop install my 4.10 gear about 3k miles ago and it has howled when on the gas and goes away when off the gas. The howling was nonexistent right away and has slowly gotten worse. The shop went out of business shortly after I had the install done and I can now see why. I am going to install a 4.30 set myself to do it right now but don't know whether to order the full install kit with bearings and all. Would a poorly set up install for 3k miles cause the gears to leave enough debris that would harm the bearings?

Edit: never mind, I don't trust that he even put new bearings in in the first place. sorry

be prepared for the worst when you open that thing up. I wasn't and I ended up having to fork over for a new Detroit TrueTrac because my Trac-Loc differential was toast.
