Radar Detectors

Hey all. So after getting my first ticket of the season 2 nights ago (43 in a 40), I am defenitely in the market for a radar detector so as to avoid anymore State Assholes.

What are some of the best brands/models out right now? The more features the better generally, with the exception of the utterly useless ones.

Also, do they still make those detectors that have the ability to scramble radar guns? I remember hearing about those 2-3 years back. Maybe it was just a line of BS but I figure I'll throw it out there.

Valentine V1 or Belltronics Driver STi. Many of you americans like V1, but my choise is STi b/c it's invisible to Spectre RDD.

Absolute best from what I hear is the Valentine, but you pay for that as well. I have heard excellent things about the Escorts. I recently purchased a Passport 8500, haven't really been around cops to test it out though. Right now you can get the 8500 (refurb) and also a 2 year extended warranty for less than $200 through ebay. Great deal, better than buying new IMO. Here is a link:

you want to take into account that in certain states/provinces, for instance Virginia, Washington D.C., Montreal, Ontario, radar detectors are illegal.

the Beltronics Driver STi may not have all the bells and whistles of a V1, but it is invisible to radar detector detectors.

Nope, he was a dick to me. Young guy, flsy sports car, 4 in the morning. I guess I got lucky, he could have pinned me on so much more (tints, exhaust, wheels 1/2 inch out from the fenders, etc)

I dont get an attitude with them because you never know if they'll let you go or not. Funny enough though, it was my first ticket ever. Ruined my clean record for 3 mph.

Looks like the V1 is my weapon of choice here. The price is justifiable if you think about how much more you'll be paying on insurance each time you receive a new traffic violation. Especially since I am under 25.

Yeah NY state troopers are really bitchy. I have little respect for them. Its more about being a megalomaniac, rather then actually helping out society. I plan to just plead guilty and take defensive driving. Its just a crappy scenario.

V1 is the way to go, but if you're looking for one on a "budget" the bel rx65 is a great value
