Yeah im hoping it's a good one. If it's on par or better than my passport, I'll be happy. Thanks for the heads up!

OP- I didn't have time earlier for a detailed post, but here's the highlights that made me choose the R3:

1) It has GPS so you can mark out locations that give false alerts
2) It displays the actual frequency, down to like .001 so you can tell the difference between a real Ka warning and new car's proximity sensors that apparently can trigger Ka also. The popo band for Ka is 34.708 I believe. Car proximity sensors are like 34.711 or something like that.
3) Range is said to be excellent
4) Red light camera warnings
5) Price
BSM are typically K band and are just nuisance alarms. Ka Band is segmented into 10 smaller sub-bands. Depending on your state, LEO typically will utilize 2 or 3 different bands. Ka is always Speed enforcement

Uniden R3 is what I use in the Mustang and also bought one for my GF because of the red light camera warning, which she needed. Has not let me down yet, great product, imo... the speaker did fail after 3.5 years, bought one from eBay and was back in business.

I always ran one back in the day. I have my old Valentine somewhere in a box.

2 things made me stop caring.

1. false positives - its annoying and honestly gets in the way of the driving expirence for me.

2. most police in my area seem to use Lazer or 'instant on' so the detector doesnt do much good anyway.

I always just flow with traffic and maybe do 5 or 10 over at most anyway... and have not gotten a speeding ticket yet with or without a detector.

Yeah, LEO are looking for the "hero" speeders, and not the 5-10MPH over PSL. You can't do shit about instant on radar (IO), but most cops are lazy and just radiate continuously (CO) or constant on. I'm using a Uniden R8 with an application on my phone (R8 companion). This gives me more information that the small display on the RD and I can tap my phone screen to mute, vice hitting a button on the RD. In the end, I'm probably one of the faster drivers in the area because I know the "hot" spots, and my RD gives me adequate warning well in advance of me of any LEO being able to lock-in my speed. Laser, on the other-hand is deadly, unless you have a jamming system (illegal in most states)

Last I went down to the Boston area, I was using my phone as a "driving directions" feature. It would notify me of speed traps ahead that other motorists had noticed and reported. It was remarkably accurate. I have not used a radar detector in over 20 years.

I run a V1 G2, although I still have my old V1 G1 in the Mustang. I need to swap out my mirror mount to fit the G2.

My G2 just saved my butt the other week, a stretch of highway I drive every week and I'm very familiar with all the false positive spots, I started getting a K band hit in a spot that is normally silent. I let off the gas and cruised back to the speed limit, meanwhile a bronco sport went blowing past me. Immediately as we crested a hill a PA state trooper was in the median with all his lights off. Bronco sport ended up getting bagged, meanwhile I had picked up that troopers K band signal over a mile away and well before he could even see us.

PA State troopers still shoot K band, drives me nuts.

You have this backwards laser jamming is actually legal in most states. I think it’s only 12ish states that have banned them but than there are odd rules like California says laser jammers are illegal with 4 sensors. So just use a 3 sensor system and you’re all good

Right. Laser jamming is legal in most states (illegal in Colorado and a handful of others). Radar jamming is illegal everywhere in the USA (FCC violation).

Huh. I thought it was illegal in most states..... I stand corrected. I currently have a 3 head jammer (front only) but will go with 2 heads on the back of the car. If you don't JTG (jam to gun) the LEO will never realize I'm jamming them....

Cobra Road Scout Dash Cam+Radar Detector.

Not that much bigger than an Escort. App dependent for the radar and dash cam. Can tune out certain frequencies as well. Camera is clear.
Let's you know about red light cameras(right turn) and speed traps-I assume from other motorists for speed traps.

Laser jamming is also illegal everywhere. Laser SHIFTING is legal in most states and the tech being used.

Literally not the same thing or they'd both be illegal.

"Laser shifters, car laser jammers, and diffusers are all terms that are used interchangeably for the same device."

"Laser jammers are legal across the majority of the United States"

The FCC does not regulate the transmission of light, only radio waves.

As I remember, laser jamming laws have been enacted in about a dozen states. The divide between radar jamming (illegal everywhere) and laser jammers (patchwork) is that the FCC regulates the radar side, while the FDA regulates the laser side.

They're both illegal in VA, of course. I was going to try and make one, finding that the laser operated at 905nm, and Digikey sold a laser that radiates on that frequency. The laser was $250.00, so nope.

-edit- While the wavelength is invisible to our eyes, a black and white camera can easily see the IR light, if the camera doesn't specifically filter the IR out (most don't.) Point your camera phone to your TV remote and watch it work.
