I own and love the Valentine1

its expensive, but proven. My roommate has a Viper and we both were driving to Vegas (to Defcon ;-) ) last year and driving from I-5 to another road (sorry forgot, but it was a two laner) his Valentine went off like 5 miles before we saw the cop, mine (at the time I had a 280 dollar Escort) went off like 500 feet before the cop. It was very weak Ka Band. Anyway, that's what convienced me to buy it.

VASCAR can be faught in court and thrown out. There is no way VASCAR can be accurate unless you have two different people, or some sort of other indication of when the vehicle entered the zone and left it. This site pretty much explains it: http://travel.3dresearch.com/prep1.html and why any reasonable judge would throw it out.

Anyway, I love my Valentine1 its KICK ASS, and has saved me now over 12 times ;-) Also, it comes with an "upgrade protection" so lets say a new radar gun comes out using a new freq assigned by the FCC (yeah right, I know) then it's upgradeable, which is pretty cool. The site if U are interested in checking it out www.valentine1.com

Not to start a war or anything, but in my comments, I was using the same two. I dunno. At http://www.valentine1.com/lab/V1Hater.asp it shows the V1's comments about how that test wasn't conducted properly, etc. But anyways, in my example, which was true life, the V1 won over the Escort, and in the radartest's site, the Escort won by like 300% (distance) so I dunno if I believe that considering my own results. :)

but hey, to each their own some like Camaro's some like Cobra's ;-)

Huh? I didn't recommend any detector over another, only a site that I think may be a useful resource for someone in the market for one. The comments by the site's reviewers look as objective as any I've seen, and appear to be in line with reviews I've read elsewhere, including the automotive magazines.

If you go to a manufacturer's website, you're going to get the company line, and if I were a manufacturer and my product didn't stack up particularly well against the competition in a head-to-head comparison test, I'd certainly be looking to find fault with the validity of that test.

Personally, I believe that all of the better detectors have ample sensitivity, so the choice essentially comes down to one of aesthetics and features.

One thing's for sure - if you're running solo down the road, and Johnny Law zaps you with his insti-gun, you're toast, regardless of what detector you're using. The only way to avoid that is a jammer, and getting caught using one of those could land you in the slammer.

Never said U did bro (Taz). I was just stating what each of the sites said (V1's and Automobile's).

If you read both of them, the same article is in Automobile magazine. Also, ALL the Car and Driver tests shows the V1 as being the best ;-) I personally like the second link you put, it seems a bit more neutral, and doesn't have someone writing an article which may be biased because of who pays the writers paycheck. Except for the fact that some of the units in the pics were mounted WRONG (e.g. http://www.speedzones.com/images/false.jpg ). People, if you mount your radar detector like this, you're more than likely to pick up aircraft, not cops, the higher the unit on the windshield the better, but don't point it up or down (all in my non-official opinion--but I did work with radar in my previous career ;-) )

Anyway, I agree with Taz on that, pick the one you like the best. But remember, anyone can put up a web site with any information they want, true or not. And with my example, it could have been I had a shitty escort too, dunno! :)

I'm sending my V1 in for an upgrade to the new code set, perhaps it will be better, hopefully not worse!

I had a K40 once, when they had the "if you get a ticket, we'll pay it, up to 1 year after purchase", I got a ticket the same week I got the unit, and I was like damn. Went back to my car, and found it OFF, lol, but they still paid it (I *failed* to tell them that I forgot to turn it on though).

It's actually a tossup for me between the Valentine V-1 (My brother has one and swears by it) and the Passport Escort SR-1 which is permanently installed in the car with a sensor in the front grill and a sensor on the rear license plate frame with a remote display panel that can be mounted pretty much anywhere in the car. I like it, because I have tinted windows and "supposedly" radar detectors are not as effective when they are used in vehicles with tinted windows, because the tint somehow distorts the signal and the detector has a hard time picking it up. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but if anyone has more detailed info on the subject, I'd love to hear about it.

Ive had the Valentime One for almost 3 years. Love it. Has never failed me. Ive driven across America with it 3 times. Always was warned well in advance before I saw a cop. Dont get me wrong, there are some new one out there that are good, but if you want the best, Id recommend the Valentine.
