Radar Detector

I'm thinking about getting a radar detector. Has anybody tried the Escort Cordless Solo S2 radar and laser detector. I kind of like the cordless because it will be used in my Cobra and my daily driver. Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Also, do the newer detectors work better than older models. My old detector would sound off all the time for other reasons than a cop with a radar gun.

Thanks for any help.

Valentine, i had one and it was amazing, it got ripped off, cause i left my window open, and well my fault for being a dumb ass but NOTHING can beat it. I don't care what the claims are, i have tested it with my friend's escort, in the same car, nothing like it. it's 399 but so worth it. The arrow indicator telling you where the signal and how many signals is worth the price alone.

I have to second that. I have had a few different detectors, (K40, Escort, Bel) and I am currently borrowing a friends Valentine to see if I like it before I order one. From my experience so far (about a month) it is worth every penny and makes everthing else I have used seem like a toy by comparison. As soon as I have to give this one back, I'm ordering my own.

I wouldn't even be thinking about buying anything other than a Valentine one if you are in the market. Nothing else comes close. Worth the money, if you are serious.

Escort is a quality product and they stand behind it. Had mine over 20 years. I dropped and busted it once and they fixed it for shipping cost. I got a V1 now because the old Escort doesn't pick up the new equipment they have, and I wanted something smaller. I still use it in my beater pickup as the local porkies have X and K.

Valentine One. That radar test site is owned by someone who used to work for Escort. The Escort is a good detector, but so is Bel. If you read Car and Driver and other REAL tests, V1 comes out on top for detection range. YES, you'll get some falses here and there - but it never fails detecting. I have used my V1 since 1998 and I have never gotten a speeding ticket since. There have been times I was doing over 110+ and it warned me enough in advance to slow down before getting clocked.

www.valentineone.com and read what he has to say about radartest.com, it's also in the ads in the magazines. The unit also comes with a strategy guide on how police use radar and laser, and what your best defense moves are. Do what the book says, along with the V1, and you will never get a speeding ticket.

There are many false alarms out there. V1 reads up to 9 signals at one time, tracks each one, shows you what band, and WHERE the signal is coming from (flashing arrow incicates strongest signal). It's REALLY hard to drive without it.

The V1 camp is pretty loyal to say the least.

BEL makes very good units for less money. I'm not about to say ANY manufacturer makes the best, since each model tested has different performance streengths and weaknesses.

To go against the radar detector test above that had V1 heads and shoulders above the competition, try this Link

I know false alarms are annoying, and my V1 gives lots of false alarms, but personally I'd rather have 100 false alarms than have it miss a REAL cop even once...

V1 owners....can the V1 be dashed mounted and still be able to see out the back window of an 03 Cobra?

If so, I had a really interesting thought on a stealth mounting setup...cus, well detectors are illegal in VA.

V1, None better, Period!

I have mine mounted just below the rearview mirror and am thinking about hardwiring it to the lights in mirror.

You can program it to raise the alert threshold on the bands you care less about and it will still give you plenty of time.

Miles of warning time are needed when you are cruising at light speed :-D and the V1 shines in this regard.

The only way you will get a ticket , if you are paying attention, with the V1 is from LASER.
Pretty hard to overcome that one (uness you go to an active system)

Forget about RADAR jammers, they are junk. If you find one that actually works it is illegal to use, since radio transmission is regulated by the FCC.

LASER, which is just light, is not regulated and can be jammed (for now).

Pay your money, learn how to use it and rely on it.

It doesn't. Use the coiled power cord. If you mount it perfectly centered and slightly below the center windshield or lower, the cord rides the side of the right air vent and plugs right in. It's not in the way of ANYTHING. The only time the cord slips into the way of the radio is if you turn hard and fast wildly.
