Hey guys,

Im looking to buy a set of rear tires for my 03 Cobra. It currently has the Nitto NT555r 305/35ZR18 on it. Im not sure whether to consider it a DD or not. I don't drive it every day but it is driven often. Im not too concerned with rain due to the fact that I try my hardest to avoid it. My car pushes 593hp/565tq to the wheels. Just trying to pick a tire that will last a decent amount of time and still have great grip. Can't decide whether I want to buy the same ones again or go with the R888's. What do you guys think? I'm open to any other options so if you have another tire of preference throw it at me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Daniel

I will eventually try the R888 but I just got another set of Nitto NT555 DRs, I have the Nitto NT05 street tire now.

i could have started the same thread....

i am in the same boat as you OP .. i have similar power (611) ... drive similar to you ... and have the exact current rear tire

when i upgrade my wheels to true forged 18 x 11's i am uncertain whether i want to get the wider 335/30 555r (would match my front 555s:shrug:) or get the r888's

personally i would love to try the r888 bc it gets such great reviews.. but dont know how i feel about mismatching tires

what is your current front tire? regular 555s in 275/35?

I actually have BFG 9-Force Super Sport 275/35ZR18's on the front. Just purchased the car recently. Im not a big fan of mismatching myself but I knew they would need replacing eventually. Depending on which tire I choose for the rears I'll either be buying either the 555s or the Proxes T1R. Had those on my GT and never had any problems with them. Great tire imo.

Feel free to monitor this thread to help aid in your decision. I'll post my decision whenever I choose which tire I'm going to be purchasing. Let me know what you end up choosing!

I have a full set of R888 they are a road course tire and are stickier than crap I used them
Road course events and autocross . Can hook up in 2nd no problem .im at 550 rwhp. They have good lateral grip. The only thing that pisses me off about them
Is tire pressure they like 35-38 hot and I got a sidewall bulge on one

I have the R888s. My car is over 600 HP. The tires start hooking in 2nd and don't stop!

If you do a search, there is a 15 page thread about these tires. One of the best mods I have ever made.

Another R888 user here. Love them so far, and are actually pretty good in the rain if you get caught. Switched from KDW2's to these and I'm not going back.

To clarify the r888 is NOT a drag radial?

..and most will say hook better on the street than 555r's?

I run a 315 nt555r with 600hp and car dead hooks in first when they are hot and most the time in second when they are cold. i have about 8-9k miles on them and will get a few more out of them. im happy with them but wouldnt mind trying other tires just to see.

I've owned both and between the 2 I'd pick the R888 over the 555r especially for a street driven performance car. The R888 stick almost as good as the 555r in a straightline and are far better in corners and wet conditions. They seem to last a bit longer as well.

So how do R888's do at the track? Say I do a 4k launch are they gonna hold or am I going to have to treat them like the street tire they are and slip the clutch?
