Hey guys,

I'm getting staggered 20" DF5 wheels from LMR this week. Obviously I'll need to order tires as well. I'm thinking of going with the following:

Size: 20x8.5 (with 255/35/20's)
Offset: +28mm
Backspacing: 5.85
Weight: 28.40lbs
Lug Pattern: 5 x 114.3

Size: 20x10 ***(with 295/30/20's)
Offset: +40mm
Backspacing: 7.07
Weight: 28.60lbs
Lug Pattern: 5 x 114.3

My question is, on a car lowered about 1" or a tad more (Hurst springs), am I going to have problems with the 295's on the rear? I would consider 305's if I KNEW I would have no issues. I know 10" wide wheels/kits usually come with 285's but many guys say they wish they went wider b/c the tires appear 'stretched'. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Also, if 295's are ideal, should I go 295/30 or 295/35? Thanks guys.

Matt

No you shouldn't have any issues at all with the 295. I think a 295/35/20 would be a good choice for a 20x10. I think a 305 would look a little off. That is just my opinion though, I know some like it.

Ok thanks. The reason I mentioned 295/30 instead of 295/35 was I figured that the 30 would help keep that overall diameter down a bit, which would a) keep the car lower overall and b) would keep the diameter closer to factory to minimize speedo cal issues.

Ok I gotcha. I would get a tune first then to make sure your speedo is right with the new wheel setup. A 30 series IMO looks rubber bandish.

Right. But correct me if I'm wrong, a 235/30 (I'm just making this up. Don't even know if they make this size) would have a significantly smaller sidewall (hello bent wheels) than, say, a 295/30. Right? So that's why I was thinking the sidewall would be sufficient. I actually just realized I could save MAJOR coin by going with a 285/30 rear tire so I may end up doing that. I just don't want to tire to look stretched on the wheel bc it's not wide enough.

Yes, saying a '30 series' tire looks too small is not taking into account the width because it means 30 percent of the section width. In other words, a 235/30 has a much shorter sidewall than a 295/30.

Depending on what tire brand you go with, a 295/30 might or might not work. I say this because I just pulled my Michelin PSS 295/30/20s off due to rubbing the tops of the fender lip with my 20x10.5 ET48 wheels. The Michelins run super fat compared to pretty much everything else (they had an 11.5" tread width which is wider than most 315s).

Also, most 305s aren't spec'd for a 10" wheel (they usually require a 10.5" min).

This is a great reference:

You are very welcome. It has been a lot of trial and error - I started with a 305/30/20 rear . . . rubbed . . . then a 295/30 rear . . . rubbed . . . then I had 3mm milled off the inside of the wheel (taking it from a 45mm offset to a 48mm) . . . and still got rub.

Just now went with a 285/35/20 Michelin PSS rear and it has plenty of clearance. I run the 285/30/20 PSS in front and think that size looks too short for the rear, for whatever my opinion is worth!

Good luck.

Which tire are you planning on going with? Seems like plenty of people run 305 and even 315 Nittos without rubbing. I would definitely take a close look at the Nitto 555 G2 - guys on mustang6g seem to really like them. Plus, they make a 295/35/20 which I'm pretty sure has a narrower treadwidth than the Michelins (even is the section width is about the same).

I ordered sumitomo htr z III 285/30's for the back. The nice thing with these tires is they are pretty cheap so if I don't like the size it's not a huge deal to remove them and get a larger tire. The htr z III's have a lot of good reviews on tireack.
