I just changed the oil on my 2002 V6, which requires 5 quarts of oil. I drained the old oil, put in exactly 5 quarts. Now I just checked the level with my dipstick before I started my car and its past the MAX indicator. I'm confused

Is there a possibility that it just looks past the MAX indicator on the stick?

I don't want to get back under there and drain brand new oil, especially since I put in exactly 5 quarts. Any help is appreciated.

Did you change the oil filter too? If you did and have not started the car yet that will cause it to read high. The filter will hold little less than 1/2 a quart or so.

Ahhh, perfect. Yeah I changed the oil filter, so now that sounds like why. I usually never check the level before starting the car (just always expected it to be fine as 5quarts=5quarts lol), but decided to this time and freaked hah.

Thanks a lot
