Ok guys, im debating on changing the stock gears in my 14 gt500 to 3:73's. want to hear eveyones opinions if they have done it . Either for it or against it. I know the usual stuff with lower mpg but really didnt buy this car for economy, already using torco in every tank per the tuner. Car is not a dd, but i will be doing the 1/2 mile wanna go fast races in october. Would 3:73 gears have any negative effects here either??

I am running 3.73's and have no complaints or desire for another ratio. It improves the driving at all levels for me. I am more of a cruiser. You might want to check with some guys that run the 1/2 and 1 mile runs for rpm at the line. 3.55s might be better, no info on this.
Be sure to read all the threads on gear whine and its causes.

Overall driving was way better with 3.73 but the whine drove me nuts.

Changed to 3.73. I really like it. I wanted 3.90's but was warned against for noise issues. If I were to do it over I still would consider 3.90's. No concerns negative on 3.73 choice. Great gear for the car.

It all depends what you plan on doing with the car if you are in the high 600 low 700 WHP you can even get away with 3:55. i am at 730whp with 4:10s and it way to much. I am going back to the 3:55 and skipping 3:73s. these cars make enough torque where you can pull the 3:55s. STAY WITH FORD GEARS TOO.

If you go to 3.73s third gear pulls to 130 mph are over. Other than that, I'm very happy with the swap and wouldn't go back.

so if you want to go to the track every once in a while with good tires, should I just skip the gears on an 8.8 and put a 9" in? car makes 730 RW. I do plan on cams and OPG's sometime

With 3.73 the 6th gear is finally useful. 89 mph at 2000 rpm vs. 1750 rpm for stock gears. This also helps shed light that this is not a crazy short gear. Even with 4.10 gears the 6th gear mph at 2000 rpm is 81. Do not fear the gear.

My current setup is a little over 700 whp. Car has never felt better. If you have not addressed traction concerns then this is all useless.

Id be cool of someone did video and data log comparisons.

3.73s would be my gear of choise for a well rounded car.

I do have gear whine, but it way secondary to stereo, exhaust and supercharger whine. So..... bring it on. The performance outweighs any and all detriments of additional drivetrain noises. I had more noise introduced from lower control arm/torque arm/watts link installation. Gear noise happens partially due to lower gear itself. I would expect more noise from 4.10's and then 4.56's. Not a big deal I guess is what I am trying to say.

Do u think going to 3:73 gears would hurt if i was wanting to run the car in 1/2 miles races?

Even with 3.90 gears you can achieve 255mph in 6th @6K rpm. We are by no means gear limited for mph. So 3.73 would help a 1/2 mile run. Seriously, do not fear the gear. Snoopy has a chart for gear choice.

Im running 305/35 MT SS's (28.7" OD). I have 3.73s and was thinking of bumping up to 4.10s due to the tire height. Whats everyone's thoughts on that?
