Here is my problem. I didnt register my truck this year. Well I did but I registered it for 20 some bucks as non-moving. The reason is I am deployed with the Army. But when I get my 2 weeks leave I need a vehicle to drive around it. Should I risk it? What is usually the maximum fine?

I'm afraid you would face stiff penalties if caught. Telling DMV you are planning on not operating the vehicle for the year is a contract, one they take seriously. They are willing to waive the hundreds of dollars in fees as long as you keep your end of the bargain. If you are found operating the vehicle in any capacity they will not only demand the year's fees, you will get stuck with a non-registered citation that will drive your overall fines above $1,000 at the very least.

Personally I would rent a vehicle or contact the DMV and see if they have any waivers you can obtain, although I doubt they exist - but that's just a good guess. You'll never know unless you ask, good luck.
