I have a question about all those magazine companies that do test reviews on all the new cars that come out. How do these companies get a hold of all these new cars? Do they purchase the new car and then do their road tests? Do they get special pricing on new cars because they perform reviews on the cars? Do the auto manufacturers have dedicated test mules that they loan out to these companies? How does it work?

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I've always wondered about that. Hopefully someone on here knows.

the car companies give them what they test, after the test they return them to the manufacturer.

consumer reports buys the cars they test but they are the exception.
