I read up on the bama tuner and felt it was right for me. Planning on standard bolt ons and wanted to eliminate my broken imrc. I also had some issues with my egr and sai so while swapping out the mmr imrc plate I figure that was the time to dump the egr, dpfe, evr, and sai.

I requested a new tune to remove the egr and sai and they responded that they can't disable either of those functions. So what can I expect with removing those two things without having the tune for them? I don't want to bring it to a tuner because with my current setup that would be waste of time and money. I literally only wanted the tuner to disable imrc, sai, and egr...now I'm being told they can only disable the imrc.

They can not write any tune that disables any pollution device under penalty of death by the EPA (along with their families). :)
Your only option now would be to find a tuner that will write a custom tune for you.

That sucks. Would be nice if maybe American Muscle updated the q&a to reflect that info. The q&a specifically states they can disable o2s and egr.

If I knew this I would have gone with tweecer.

Yea, I'm going to call them and see what they can do. I mean their page specifically states they can delete the egr and that's one of the main reasons I bought it. I don't need a tune really, i don't have enough done to the car to warrant it right now. I just needed to disable some features. At this point I should have stuck with the tweecer. I had a tweecer on my 88 coupe and while the learning curve was steep, I was able to disable anything I wanted. After reading everything about the bama I figured it would just be easier to let them do it for me.

This is a recent move. The government is handing out hefty fines for this now and all companies were put on notice. And in turn they put anyone using their software on notice.

I just called them to ask them if I could have someone turn off those features within the tune they wrote, and nope. Their tunes are locked. I said "You know your website specifically states you can disable EGR, right?" and he told me they were about to revamp the website. Well whole lot of help that is for me now. I guess I'll see if I can return it, convert the car back to stock and start over.

New question. Since none of the tuners like this will disable egr or sai what are my options? Since I am familiar with the Tweecer, should I try to return the X4 and buy a Tweecer, or another self tuner? I really wish I could get my hands on the software for the X4 and I'd disable it myself. I'm at a loss here, I really only wanted to eliminate these hardly functional space wasters. I'm still in the process of just cleaning up some issues with the car before I start sinking money into actual mods. So I thought the x4 would be the way to go. Turn off some failed functions now, create a tune for power later. Now I'm sort of stuck with this $400 imrc delete box.

I don't see you as being stuck with the American Muscle product. If they misrepresented what they could do in an add, you should be able to return their product. I would make a call and go up the chain of command if need be.

There are a lot of tuners available that still use SCT, and they can do everything you need. These are not going to be big box, tunes for life tuners though. They will be performance specialists. There are several guys on this site that can and will remote tune your car, and sell you a new SCT X4.

There are also other brands available, such as Diablo.

Thank you, I will call them tomorrow and see what they can do for me. Then I'll see who here can help with remote tuning. I figure it should be fairly easy at this stage. I recently bought the car and the only mods he had were catted x-pipe, a k&n filter and 3.73 gears. Down the road I will be doing more but for right now it's just getting some things sorted out, like the broken IMRCs and removing these leaking emissions nonsense. I know the EGR and SAI won't give me performance increases, I just really don't want that stuff on there in the way. Too many brittle vac hoses and things that can leak. I know it's a completely different car but my 88 ran so much better and smoother with the smog pump and egr deleted along with removing them from the tune. If I had opted for the Tweecer I could have done it myself. But if buying an SCT x4 and having someone do it for me is an option, I think I'd rather leave it up to someone who knows this PCM better than I do.

If push comes to shove and I'm stuck with the Bama, can anybody on here still write remote tunes for it? If I could still treat it as a regular SCT and pay for remote tunes, I'd only really be out the extra money I spent on life time tunes from Bama.

Yes, your Bama tuner is nothing more than a rebadged SCT X4. I have one that says Bama myself. I purchased the tuner with the car.

The tuner is basically an external storage device for your tunes. You can load any tune on it that you would like from anyone using SCT software.

Another benefit of the X4 is remote data logging, reading and removing CEL codes, etc.

Man, I tell you. From the moment I got the email from bama telling me they can't disable those things, my head has been spinning. I thought I did my homework and it's been quite deflating. Until I read your comments. Now I feel a lot better, knowing all i need to do is find someone who will write be a base tune with those removed. I feel a whole lot better. Thank you so much for that.

Hey if you still are in need of a tuner that can disable EGR and rear 02 sensors, i have a few X3 and X4 in stock that still have the older firmware and tune versions on them that will still allow you to turn these features off when tuning with the SCT preloaded tunes that they come with. Its not the best tune you can possibly get ( preloaded vs custom) however its by far your cheapest and easiest options to fix your issues.

1) try to get AM to take it back
2) if they wont, you may be able to dispute it with your CC but make sure you print that page/save it before it changes!
3) if you keep the tuner call around and find a tuner that will do what you want. If you email or text, most are gonna tell you no to cover their ass with everything that is going on.

If you did your homework, then how did you miss the massive lawsuit and settlement a few months ago over this?
As you have been told elsewhere, no major company is going to be able to deactivate emissions systems in the tune (i.e. violate federal law). Its always been illegal, but like most things, no one particularly cared because it wasnt a problem. If you are annoyed, direct your profanity to the idiots rolling coal.

My homework consisted of reading the BAMA website, along with the various websites that sell these tuners. I then searched forums for key words like "egr delete" and "tunes for egr/cai delete", which all brought up threads upon threads of people talking about how all you need is a tuner to delete them, many of which mentioned SCT and Bama as specific tuners to accomplish this. Like I said, the americanmuscle site specifically states they can delete the egr with their tunes. It's literally still on their site right now.

Bama Mustang X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner w/ 3 Custom Tunes 101200G94SE (96-98 Cobra)

Look at the second question in the Q&A area.

How much more homework should I have done? I debated going with Tweecer or Bama, and after many people suggesting Bama I went with it. My annoyance is directed at the reputable website where I purchased the tuner for being very clear that this tuner CAN do what I want it to do. Only to find out AFTER I dropped $430 that I can't do three of the four things I wanted it for. I talked to them yesterday and just got off the phone with them again, yet their website STILL shows it can delete the EGR function. You don't think that's misleading? I'm sorry if I'm a little pissy, but given the circumstance I think I have the right to be. Especially since they won't return it and now I'm stuck with something that MAY do what I want, only if I can find someone who can do it. Because from what they told me just now, nobody using SCT software can delete the function. At this point unless I can find someone who CAN do it, I'm stuck with either now replacing all the missing emissions components, or selling this and buying an older tuner or a tweecer.
