Pulsating at idle

I tried a search for this as I know it was discussed before but no luck.

When running the A/C the engine pulsates quite a bit. I was told to recharge the A/C which I did but I still have the same problem. Any thoughts?

Might want to try cleaning the idle air control valve.

What do you mean pulsates?

It is designed to raise the idle a couple hundred RPM every time the compressor engages with the A/C on.

When it disengages it drops again.

When I have the A/C on and sitting idle, the RPM's rev between 800 and 1200 RPM constantly.

Being a newb with a lot of this, I have no idea how to tell if that is the case :shrug:

You should hear it but you can also watch the clutch.

yeah you should hear a decent sounding click when it engages and releases.

Plus you can see the clutch engage if you're looking at the compressor. You can hear the engine load increase when it engages or have a buddy watch the tach.
