I get a notification that I have to download and install updates. The only update I have is 'Norton AntiVirus Virus Definitions'. I go to download it and it says it's not able to install. It says it failed because it tried to overwrite a file that was in use and I have to close all of the Symantec apps. and run LiveUpdate again. Well, I've done this and the problem still persists. Any ideas?

You could uninstall Norton and then reinstall. That should take care of it. Make sure you have a CD with Norton on it if it came installed with your computer. Go to Control Panel, Add or Remove programs and then find and remove it. Then reinstall from the CD. After Norton installs, you can set it to automatically update if you like. Then you don't have to worry about updating definitions [which is important].
