Preload spring question

I am add a new ford racing cover to the IRS on my 1999 cobra. While the diff is out I was going to upgrade the clutch pack on my stock 1999 28 spline traction lok diff. My question is will the carbon clutch kit's 31 spline preload spring fit in the space available in my 28 spline diff?

Some can get it in, some can't.

While you're in there, consider installing a Detroit truetrac instead.

you can get it to fit, but it takes some doing...

The successful attempts seem to compress it in a vice, then wrap it with bailing wire, and cut the wire once its in. Seems legit.

That is pretty much what I've done to make it work, except I used a screw clamp to hold it after I compressed one side of the spring, then once I got it in and just out the other side, I removed the clamp and knocked the spring back in.
