New to this forum, but it definitely seems like the right place to get some good opinions on tire sizes that look right. I have a 2014 Mustang that I just picked up some new wheels for. The fronts are 19 x 8.5 -35 and the rears are 19 x 9.5 -35. I've narrowed my tire sizes down to two different pairs.

Pair 1: Front - 255/40 ZR19 Rear - 275/40 ZR19

Pair 2: Front - 245/40 ZR19 Rear - 285/35 ZR19

I am leaning towards pair 1 because they are just a tad larger dia than the stock 235/50 18s that are on the car now. Pair 2 are about a 1/4" shorter than the stock tires. I'm not keen on that idea.

I am also planning on lowering the car prior to installing these new wheels. Not a lot, but enough to do away with some of the fenderwell gap.

What do you all think?

is there a reason youre not pairing up the 255/40/19 and 285/35/19? thats what Im running, while the fronts are taller, we're talking .15 of an inch, I would do the 245/40/19 and 285/35/19 before your other option

Yeah, I don't want a taller tire up front. The main reason I have the 40 series option is because I am a little concerned about ride quality. I picked the 255/40 to pair up with the 275/40 because the diameter comparison is more proportionate than the 245/40. I drive this car everyday on rough, rural Texas roads. I figured the 275/40 would probably give a lot better ride quality than the 285/35.

I'm still on the fence. I reckon what I really need to do is go to a tire store that has all 4 of these sizes in stock and look at them in person.

I do not like the look of the taller front tire either. Sometime when they are the same size, it still appears the front tire is taller. I am going with a taller rear to make sure this optical illusion does not exist. I may even do the 19' front and 20" rear to help with this. It looks good on the Shelby and I like the tire sizes better on the 20's.
