The basics here... The "pitbull", American Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, English Bull Terrier, ect are all similar. Lets not forget what they are, "Bull AND Terrier", which stands that it originated from the cross of a bull and terrier (basic breeds which preceded many of the later breeds), originally intended to be used for gaming sports like dog baiting, rat baiting, bull baiting, ect. The terrier part was introduced for speed and tenacity, as well as the bull for sheer strength. If you think "pitbulls" are the only "gamely" dogs, I encourage you to take a close look at some of the terrier group. The Jack Russell can be downright fanatical, and ridiculous to deal with... albeit smaller and much less dangerous. However, introduce "bull" into the breed and now you have size, speed, strength, and tenacity. It can be a very dangerous mix... and unfortunately it often is. Not because the breed is inherently unstable, on the contrary they are known for being friendly and loyal. The breed is dangerous because people raise them improperly. They aren't unstable spawns of the devil. They are friendly, loving dogs that are the victim of poor circumstances because APBT are as common in ghettos and trailer parks as ill bred fools that are so insecure they need to hide behind an intimidating dog. You don't hear nearly as much about Staffordshire Bull Terriers or English Bull Terriers because they aren't sold for 50-100$ from the guy who also sells crack rocks and stolen radios.
