During the abbey road session while the band was playing Shine On, a bald Syd walked in unannounced and watched the band perform it. Talk about uncanny. The song was about him.

I believe that story was recited on the Wall DVD in the 2nd audio track (director & Roger speaking). They also discussed Syd's penchant for staring blankly at the mic on stage...that is how Gilmore entered the scene. Syd would compose the songs and David would play them live...until Syd dropped out all together.

Here's the story...
"In a famous anecdote, a heavyset man with a completely shaved head and eyebrows wandered into the studio while the band was recording "Shine On You Crazy Diamond".

The band could not recognize him for some time, when suddenly one of them realized it was Syd Barrett. He was greeted enthusiastically by the band but subsequently slipped away during the impromptu party for David Gilmour's wedding (which was, coincidentally, also on that day).

It was the last time any of the other band members saw him. Gilmour recently confirmed this story, although he could not recall which song they were working on when Syd showed up. Barrett's eyebrow-shaving tendencies would later be revisited in the movie Pink Floyd: The Wall."

Watching Aussie Floyd every year is good but it just aint Pink Floyd.

Maybe this event will get the other Members of P.F to realize they aint so young anymore and get together one more time......

And maybe my GT can take a KB'd terminator.

You should be listening to Piper at the Gates for a good tribute, I meant to put it in the cobra this morning on my way to work, but forgot. By the way, I'm assuming you've done the Wizard of OZ/Dark Side of the Moon thing, if not, it's pretty amazing to experience.

It really is amazing how everyone associates Syd with Pink Floyd, he was a founding member but spent all off 2 years with them. By staying completely out of sight for so long he turned himself into a legend whether he wanted that or not (probably not)
