can 225/50 series tires fit on an svt contour without rubbing? I know the size will work on the rim based on the manufacturers specs, but i want to make sure they wont rub.

no they wont rub i have 225 50 on my 1998 model csvt no rubbing
im going back to 205 55 16 i saw no good out of a wider tire

depends on the brand of tire. I ran 225/50s on the E1 rims and they looked way to big. the 205/55 size is hard to find and expensive. Look at 225/45s or similiar. PM Y2KSVT he ran a good looking/performing size on his '00.
