My girl has an 02 1.8t auto and its been rock solid up until recently. Shes the type who gets in it and just goes with no warmup after a cold night and gives a cold motor boost just backing out of the driveway.

2mo ago it pooped a battery, no biggie. Then it pooped the cable between the batt and alt, frying the 3 fuses and fuse dist box by the battery because the cable was old and had high resistance. Now its making a whistle/sputter on cold starts and putting a cel (p1109 or something for some bs valve) that goes away once it warms up.

Ive heard the motor on the 1.8t's are built far better than the 2.0 na's. The auto tranny sucks and lasts 100k according to most; shes at 130k but bought it at 90k so dunno if thats the stock trans or if its been replaced.

Sent from my iPhail using Tapatalk while doing 90 on the freeway and streetracing through traffic. What now?

I had a 2.0 stay away! Wanna see what happened to mine. All in one day every light on it came on. My sister in law and her brother both had 1.8ts with under 60k and they too had major issues. My sister in laws was electrical, her brothers was electrical and the tranny.

our 02 tribute basically same vehicle has 122k and runs like a top, the only issue with it ever has been IAC, but those are cheap and easy to replace.

That makes sense I suppose. I just figured a jeep cherokee beater could be had for nearly the same price and be a 4x4.

My diesel truck was AMAZING in the snow. 35x12.50 tires made it plow through everything....
