Hi
I'm the proud owner of a 03 Cobra . I love to go to solox ,autcross with this car but this car is also my daily driver. I just came across a 87 Merkur xr4ti wish is enxelent condition. A fellow Cobra owner who also roadraces his car told me that the merkur is a good platform and that he used to have a thunderbirt turbo with 400whp.

I would apreciate opinions ,info and web pages about this car

thanks

That car is known as the Sierra (SP? ...maybe with a C not an S bu don't remember) in the EU. It is a well balanced car, and pretty simple technology wise. I'm not sure how easy it is to get parts for it. I drove one a few years ago. Interesting choice. I sort of looked at it as a another Escort, but one drive change that. I'd run some searched and see what you can turn up for parts availability before buying one of those. It would stink to have got the car in a great deal, only to be stopped in your tracks by lack of parts.

Good luck!

thanks for your response , yes I'm searching cute a bit triying to see if it is worth to buy a car like this one and being able to find parts for it.

nice pic of your car. I see you also like to race your car. the Cobra is an exelent car to go to track day events , but I would'nt like to mess my cobra that much b/c roadracing really puts strees on these cars and more that one time it has overheated.

Thanks

It is definitely a risk....but I got this car for that kind of use. On track I drive roughly 6/10, so I'm not really beating the crap out of it, but it certainly gets use. :)

My father-in-law ran an xr4ti in scca showroom stock in the late 80's. As I recall, the only problem he ever had was breaking off lug studs. Everything else held up reasonably well.

I've seen that car a couple of times during Sunday night cruise. He's done quite a bit of work to it.

It's a nutcase car... those cars (like turbo birds and svo's) have TONS of power potential.

Tell me about it. I have had my XR for 15 years now, tons of parts, just no time to put anything on it. Maybe I'll see you out on a Sunday cruise night?
