i just got an 05 GT several weeks ago. It feels as if only the passenger side rear wheel is spinning with or without the traction control on. Is this the case with the 05?

The clutch packs in the differential are finished.
If you still have warranty on the car and still have the factory gear in it you can try to get them to perform the noisy rear end TSB which replaces all the internals of the differential.

Either replace them with the frpp ones or replace the LSD unit with a Detroit TrueTrac.

You can also use the 03-04 Cobra clutch packs which are carbon fiber.

Only one way to find out, go rev/dop clutch in middle of street, then get out of the car and examine the road for 2 black marks or 1 :)

The car only has 18,000 miles on it, why would the clutch packs in the rear be shot already? If they are, will that lead to any other problems?

18K miles and 2 years old. You should be good. Wouldn't that be covered under the 5/60K powertrain warranty, even if the car was out of the 3/36K?

Happened in my GT but I had alot of burnouts and track times in her. If you do it yourself just makes sure you soak the clutch packs long enough to avoid chatter. I thought my rearend was grinding itself away! -Shane

Since you're not the original owner it's very possible the clutch packs are shot.
You have no idea how the car was driven before.

Mine were shot at 9k. The Ford stealership told me that the assembly line 'forgot' to add a friction modifier from the factory, thus toasting the packs. It's a warranty fix.
