I put the instrument cluster into diagnostics mode and oil pressure reads 000. The oil pressure gage reads just to the right of center. Car does have a DTC code of 5284(oil pressure switch failure). I'm confused, one reads 000 and one is okay. Can anybody explain? Will disconnecting the battery to remove the code help anything or do I have to take it to the damn dealer?

Don't stress everything is perfect.

000 is a perfect reading when the car is running. 255 means that there is zero oil pressure. 255 should be you reading when the car is off. For your cluster to display 000 it must be getting an oil pressure signal otherwise reading would remain 255 continuously.

Thanks yates...man. No valve clatter so I knew I had oil pessure. I was hoping the readout would show me actual pounds pressure. Anyway, you saved me a trip to the dealer which I didn't want to do.
