Oil pressure gauge help

so I followed someone's how-to on how to make a T fitting so i can run my aftermarket and stock sending unit from the same spot. Well I get it all wired up, my autometer gauge works fine, stock one doesnt read anything and my dummy oil light is on. I checked all the connections which seem fine, unplug the stock wire from the stock sending unit and touch it to the autometer sending unit, still dummy light is on. I accidentally brushed the wire from the stock gauge on the body of the autometer and i get a signal, stock gauge goes a little above half way. How can i get a signal from the body of the aftermarket unit but from the spot where the wire is supposed to go, also why am i not getting a signal from the stock sending unit?
