So

I had my IRS swapped to a built Solid axle. . . and I had looked through this site searching for how much weight I would save by doing this, well . . . i got a variety of answers . . . anywhere from 85 lbs to 275 lbs . . .

well the verdict is in, i went and weighed my car today . . .

now, i made sure I had the same amount of fuel in the car as before, as well as making sure the crap i had in the trunk was still there . . .

weight before built solid = 3725 . . . 1/3rd tank of gas, shit in trunk

weight after built solid = 3580

145 lbs

now, i would guestimate it to be around 150 - 175 on normal swaps. . .i had the built solid with many adjustable suspension parts put on as well . . . and those add some weight . . .

all in all, I am super happy with the solid 8.8 . . . if you don't hit the twisties but like the drag strip. . . i recommend it

Great post!

x2.

Now whats the weight difference between the Terminator and C6Z?

Everyone is always like 800 or 1,000 lbs and I'm like bull F'in shit, try more like 500 lbs as my car only weighed 3,611 when I was getting my C/O's balanced and thats with a stock k-member and a-arms, and over a 3/4 tank of gas.

This might be a dumb question, but what solid read did you use, is there a preferred product people like or are people taking the solids from other cars and just switching them in

I look at the IRS like this:

Negatives:

Extra weight
Catback bending around the IRS looks like ass
Level 5 halfs are the price of a complete built SRA
Wheel hop at higher HP levels

Positives:
Slightly better ride
Better for circle track/autocross

Bottom line,
get the SRA and correct suspension mods and have the best of both worlds without the risk of breaking anything.

Wow, seeing the exhaust piping is my favorite thing about the IRS.
