It is one of the most loved and hated cars on Autoblog.com – the Ford Mustang, particularly the latest generation produced from 2005-2009 known as the S197. Its proponents rave about its bang for the buck and handsome retro looks, while retractors nag about the ancient solid rear axle and cheap interior. Whatever your opinion, no one can deny that the latest generation of Mustangs has been incredibly popular, both with consumers as well as the aftermarket. Perhaps too popular, according to many of you. It seems that a new version of the Mustang surfaces weekly and sometimes even daily. Whether from big time manufacturers like ROUSH, Saleen and Shelby, or simply one-off "special edition" Mustangs built by random companies looking to make a quick buck, there has never been a shortage of Mustangs from which to choose.

With the new 2010 Mustang's official debut at the LA Auto Show just a few weeks away, it looks like the sun is setting on the current generation of Ford's pony car and its never-ending stream of variations. To commemorate its passing, and because it's been way too long since we had a Mustang post (at least a day!), we've decided to come up with a list of every single variant of the 2005-2009 Mustang that we could find... all of them. Follow the jump to see just how many Mustang variants were produced over the last four years.

Most people who say they hate a s197 probably have never had the chance to drive the piss out of one.

lol you'll all come around just like the last fox body hold outs who hated anything other than the fox

5 years and i still wouldn't buy a gt500 at sticker. s197 is the ugliest thing to come out of detroit in the past few years. second ugliest will be the 2010 mustang. it's practically the same ****ing thing.

Cervini's C300 and C500. I also was trying to bang this cougar that had a Mustang 2+2. It was a vert, red with black stripes, black chrome bullitts, a shaker, and some ugly billet grille. She said it had 500 hp or something, but I drove it and it had basically the same power as a stock GT. Never got to bang her either.

We have a lot of haters in the house tonight!.... lol

I guess I am a little biased... I think the s-197 looks hot, especially if you hook them up the right way. Look at my little avatar... Now that's hot.

Any still in love with the COBRA's aggressiveness... Now those are sex on wheels.

Here
the S-197 platform was a marketing home run for Ford and an aftermarket parts home run for just about anyone that made a part for this car. I've never seen so many different parts and manufacturers, seemed like everyone got in on it.
Hell just look at SEMA the last few years, every booth had a Mustang in it.
I myself have owned 2 S-197's 1 coupe and 1 convertible, both great cars and far superior over the previous models.
