Not quite sure, it really isn't that bad though. I have done a couple of oil changes on hot subarus with that exhause setup, so all I do is use my oil filter adapter that hooks on to it, then I put a short extension on it and use a ratchet. Now if it is someone that doesn't have tools, then wait for the car to cool down before dropping the filter, lol.

Because it's a flat-4. I know the 2015 Outback now has an inverted filter, changed from the top. My 3.6 (a flat 6) has it on the side of the engine. But my buddies 2012 2.5L Outback, looks just like that. I almost did a spitake when he sent me a picture of it.
