OP the nt555r is a drag radial, it has decent driving manners and good traction with a softer compound, it also comes with a slightly softer side wall. the nt555rII are a road racing/autox tire, same tread pattern and street manners with stiffer side walls, basicly the only diffrence is the side walls. r is soft, rII is stiffer.

@the OP, FORD4U is correct.

The tread patterns have the same design with similar rubber compounds. The main difference is the construction. The NT555R uses a semi-radial carcuss for more flex of-the-line and the NT555RII uses a reinforced internal construction for better handling/cornering.

It really depends on what you want out of your next set of tires.

Daily driving, maybe...

The NT555RII is an R-Compound Competition tire so it's rated for around 5K to 10K miles. Since it's an R-Compound Competition tire, you can not run this tire in near freezing conditions. See the link below...

Will it grip and handle well on the street (if temperaturers permit) absolutely.

If you're after a tire model that can be used in the summer only that handles/grips well and can be run as a daily driver, I would look into the NT05 Max Performance.

Here's a link with more details.

How is that NT05 in the rain? Looking at the tread pattern it does look up to the task of evacuating water. I could be wrong.
