Looking for replacement rear tires 20" wheels. I currently have 285 Nitto Extreme NT555. Seriously considering Nitto NT05 in a 315/35/20. I don`t want the "R" compound - just the regular NT05s. Does the NT05 provide a significant dry traction improvement over the NT555?

I had the NT555's on my LS1 F-body in 285/35/18, and I have the NT05's on my '04 Cobra in 295/35/18.

When the roads were warm (65+ degrees) the NT555's were perfect on my Trans Am with 340WHP. I could dead hook in 1st gear with 4.10's, no when spin.

My Cobra obviously has a lot more power (472RWHP) so its hard to compare, but the NT05's were excellent on road course, tons of grip. However, I've found that on the street I'm not so sure they are a whole lot better than the NT555's. They were very bad at the drag strip, I couldn't hook up until 3rd gear. I think that was more a result of the really shitty track I was at though, and possibly the NT05's don't like to grip against the rubber that was already laid down.

The NT05's are awesome if you plan on going to any track days, but I'm not so sure there's a huge difference between the two on the street.

555s will get greasy pretty quick when pushed on the road course. NT05s are a great street/track day tire.
