I noticed that the "battery light" in the dash does not come on when I am at key on and just before engine start. In fact, I have never seen that battery light come on at all since I've owned the car. I'm the 3rd owner. I haven't pulled the gauge cluster yet to see if it's just a bulb or something easy like that. That's coming soon...

If it's not just a bulb, where should I be looking? At idle the car is charging around 13.9-14.1 volts when I had the meter on it....

Previous owner probably pulled the bulb out of frustration. For years I ran mine with a battery light on. Car and alternator ran fine. Dealer couldn't find a problem with it and didn't know why the light wouldn't go away.

If I remember correctly - the Alternator's voltage regulator is the component that controls that light. I think if you find the wiring schematics for our car, that the images will show the battery light directly linked to the alternator.
