Question,
Do the Nitto NT05R 315/35r/20's fit ok on the stock back rims with out any mods to suspension for clearance, etc.
Reason I ask is I was at a car show last Saturday and saw a 2014 GT500 with looked like stock back rims and had the Nitto NT05R's 315/35r/20, but I was not able to talk to the owner, so I don't know if rims had been modified or if any clearance issues had been addressed.
Loved the way it looked, didn't seem to bulge from the rim or anything.
Would have used the search, but don't seem to work.
Thanks in advance.

315 on a 9.5" wide wheel is a no go. 10-10.5" wide would be the minimum for a 315. I would never do it, but that's me and my car. Others might do it, but that's REALLY pushing it. Tires are not cats, if I fits I sits doesn't work with tires.

Another option would be the Nitto NT555R. I have them on my stock performance pack rims and like them.

Size is 305/35/R20.

The NT05R 315/35/20 is the best tire you will ever put on oem rims. nittos run slightly narrower than any tire. They fit PERFECT & you will hook hard. DO IT.

At the Car Show last Saturday, I got some pictures of the rims and tires, so I could look at over and over, but I did not know if rim was modified. They looked great and again, no bulge.
Cool!. Thanks.
PS. Are the Nitti Invo's any good for traction?

I did find a similar thread about this and they mention that Discount Tires would not mount them if they show tire requires at least a 10" rim. The Shelby's are 9.5", so they will not mount them.
I say BS, but I do understand from their point of view.

My current 305 M/T SS tires on my stock 9.5 wide rear wheels

and the best close up picture I have of when I used the 315 NT05Rs on my stock 9.5 wide wheels.
you can run either one of these tires with the stock wheels with no problems at all.

Thanks everyone.
2011 gtcs, you have had both now, which one do you like best for pure hooking up. The MT SS's or the NT05R's?
With the NT05R's, do you lose your handling or does the car still do pretty good in corners?
Thanks

see how much tread is not being used?! You have a 315 and are using about a 285-295 worth of tread. So tell me what the point is. I wasn't joking about if I fits I sits doesn't apply to tires.

here is a proper tire size on the proper wheel width.

Sure, saying stuff like, " I got 315's on my Shelby bro" is cool to say I guess. But what's much cooler is, using ALL of the tire tread. Do yourselves a favor and get proper tire sizes.

Yes I have used both. The NT05R is a ok tire for cars under 700whp. The MT SS tire is the best tire I have ever used. Awesome traction, still has decent handling and rides perfect. The M/Ts are fairly expensive but worth the money, and yes the 305 to 315 tire would work better with a 10.0 wide wheel but I have been running bigger tires for almost 3 years with my car and I have seen any issues with running them on the 9.5 wide wheel.

+1...exactly what he said! I bought 10.5 wheels and I put 295 on the rear even though some said 315. Get a size that is meant for the rim. The reason tire sizes have a rim range is for the reasons mentioned above.
