i am looking for a beginner's DSLR figured i need a hobby and photography interests me. if i jump quick enough i can get a D40 with 2 lenses for 600 +tax (supply seems slim in stores but not ebay)

or for about the same get the 60 with just the 18-55mm lens.

I've used a buddy's D40 before and I liked it. Seems like a great camera + you're getting 2 lenses which makes it a good deal.

Out of the D40 and D60 hands down the D60. The D40 is good camera but as far as D-SLR everything is better than it unless you get one from 10 years ago.

I have a D40 and love it. But I would rather have a D60 if I had the option. But hell the D40 is still way more camera than I can use.

I have a D60 and I wouldnt trade it for anything else. Works GREAT for what I use it for and takes very nice pictures. If I ever freakin get a photobucket account up I will have to post some of my shots.

yea the 2 lenses (one is the 18mm-55mm and the other is the 55mm-200mm) is a big selling point for me. and this will be my first dslr. i've used point and shoots.

i dont plan on throwing thousands of dollars at this thing for lenses etc. etc. but it may turn into more.

if you get one of those kits online with those 2 lenses make sure you get the VR on the 55-200 lens it makes all the difference...

I would say save up for a D90. I have had the d40, d60 d70 and now the d90. It is well worth the other 600$ plus you get the HD video with it.

I just went through this delema, I ended up getting a D90 (not here yet) .. anyway from what I read if you are stuck between the D40 and D60 .. most say go with the D40 ..
