Picked up an 01 Convertible from a buddy at work who no longer was interested in it. Has 38,000 miles, and only minor weathering and usage on the exterior. Interior driver seat has a little wear. Offered him $10k, and he wanted to get rid of it, so he took it. Good deal ? Only concern of mine is a some noise coming from the rear end, mechanic friend that works at Ford said its most likely the diff. bearings. Since I wanted to change to 3.73s, it isn't a big deal, but I would have rather changed them on my own time, instead of now. Anyways, any tips or feedback is welcomed. Ive owned two mustangs in the past, 90 4 cyl and a 93 vert 4 cyl, so its nice to finally have an 8.

What differences am I looking at going from 3.27 ->3.73 or 4.10. I don't want my car to be screaming on the highway, just looking for some more grunt. Not sure if I'd notice much of a difference with 3.73s, opinions?
Also, talked to a Ford parts guy, (Downs Ford, NJ) and he said the labor is usually around $800 + parts for the gear swap. Does this sound right ?

Good deal car looks good. I have 4.10's and would definitely recommend over 3.73's. A lot of fun :burnout:

That's too high. If it was $800 with parts, still pretty high but better. Look around other than a dealership. If you spend about $4-600 for parts and labor, I'd say thats pretty reasonable. Look for local mustang shops.

BTW, nice car and you paid a great price!

Car looks great. I paid about 12k for my coupe almost two years ago and it had 32000 miles. 10k for a convert with that mileage though? Thats awesome!

I got another quote from wicked motorsports in brick nj, he wants 450 plus parts, so that's alot better. Place gets decent reviews too. I just don't want to have to get a tuner for the speedometer and the 4.10s

Nice cobra go with 4.10's wish I would of got low on funds at the time had 3.73's arond so went with them, you will need a tuner either way though to recalibrate your speedometer.

I went with 4.30's, not much difference between the 4.10's and the 4.30's so you might as well just go up to 4.30's.
You'll need a tuner too, I have the SCT, I got it from Justin at VMP turning with 3 tunes. I sent him a list of my mods and he put them on my tuner. That was around $400 but that was back in 2008.

However, I do not drive my car much, especially now that we are stationed on an island so MPG isn't a big concern for me.
If your car is a DD you may want to go lower on the gears.

Congratulations and welcome

the 4.10s will eat your MPG's if that's a consideration.

I have had my 4.10's in for about a month now and I have noticed about a 1mpg difference on the highway and I do a lot of Highway driving. They really don't eat up your MPG. I also have a aggressive tune on my car so that could also be why my 1 mpg difference is. If you are worried about the 1 mpg get a fuel economic Tune from VMP  Outside of that I love my 4.10's

Welcome and congrats on the deal. I'd do 4.10's and it should be somewhere around $500 for parts AND labor for an IRS gear swap.

500 for parts and labor sounds cheap. I was told it was 6 hrs labor. $150 for the gears and $90 for the rebuild kit only has him getting 260 for the install ?
