Just put a new starter in today and it shrieks when I start the car but just for a second then goes away. Any ideas? Old starter never shrieked and didn't have shims so I'm lost. Any ideas?

Rebuild starters are a 50/50..
I would exchange it...
I had a bad time with starters during compression testing..
had went thru 4 of them if not more..
during bench test on returning most passed on first try but if tested again and again they would start to fail..

It's not rebuild that is what is passing me off.
