I bought one of my childhood dream cars today. A 97 Viper GTS, 7000 miles, all original and unmolested.

I love the way this car looks but other then that my 14 Shelby is a better car in every way. Anyone else here have a soft spot for Vipers?

nice purchase! I'm jealous, if I remember correctly the 96-99 gts vipers have a pretty stout factory forged bottom end, throw some boost at it!

I have always wanted a GTS of this year.
These cars have such beautiful lines.

Ok, so how does it differ from the Shelby?
How do they compare on bottom and top-end?

The Shelby has better fit and finish, rides better, handles better, shifts better and has more power all around. Shelby top speed is 202mph, Viper is 185mph. The Viper is a raw car with no nannies or ABS, that is what makes a viper a viper though. It was a impressive car for its time, the new gen 5 viper is a huge improvement but doesn't look as good imo and is 140k lol.

2015 Gen 5 Vipers start at $85k MSRP.

The SRT Gen 5s are starting to pop up in the used car market here between 75k and 80k...not bad for a sub 5k mile car...another year or so and I will be ready for another one =)

Beautiful Viper OP. I love the Gen 2 GTS they are a timeless car that will never look old IMO.

I want to get one with Heads & Cam or some boost thrown at it.

+1 I'm getting impatient, but if dodge decides to make a gen VI hopefully that drives prices down on the V.

Would love to find a TA Orange for low 70s.

Congrats OP, I have always wanted a 96 to 97 blue GTS viper. They are my all time favorite vipers. Maybe one day I can add one to my collection next to the Shelby.
