Besides having the skinny stripes,canards on the front valence it also appears to have brake ducts located where the fog lights should be too.
Based on what we see in this video I would say these were all definitely early considerations that Ford tested but nixed close to and in favor of what we now see as the final production vehicle.
I'm sure the canards and the brake ducts performed very well "on track" but I can see why Ford decided not to go with them.
Losing the canards was probably a NHTSA thing that would not pass pedestrian safety regulations for bumper protection. Dang hippies ;-)
They probably found the downforce that they needed through other items so they could delete them and make the car more simple to assemble and have a cleaner look.
