So hey I got my new 4.10 FRPP gears installed on Friday. Anyway, they are GREAT!!! Now everytime I shift into 2 and 3rd it grinds, whatsup? Think its becaue of the gears or my driving habits being different because of the different RPM's??? I've never grinded them before (maybe 5 times in my life) lol..

Thanks for any imput...

If you dont mind me asking, but how much did the insall cost? and how long did it take to istall? I'm askin because I should be gettin my gears in the mail soon and was wondering how much I need to save( I also have to save for my car payment:sad ). Thanks.

P.S. which speed compensator did you use, and was it a pain to install?

Gears were 179 189 I can't remember...somewhere in that ball park, and the install was 386 (that includes tax etc etc). He charged me a lot more than my GT from 2 years ago becasue of the IRS, the FRPP gears come with the bushings, and he put them on too. I dropped it off at 8, and picked it up at 945.

Fangstang, you can get FRPP gears from Diversified Products in Michigan for $149. You can find them in any Ford/mustang mags. or www.BuyFordMotorsport.com.

I did my gears myself using instructions from a few sites. If you have decent mechanical skills and patience you can do it yourself. I would check around for a gear shop if you let someone do the job, especially on an IRS. Trying to save money or going to a hack shop will only get cost you time and money in the future. You could save a little money pulling the pumpkin yourself and then taking it to a gear shop. IMHO, pulling the pumpkin is half the work.

Hey Fangstang, I forgot..
"P.S. which speed compensator did you use, and was it a pain to install?"

On the 1999 (I think) and up, youc can't just buy the little plastic gear to compensate for the diff in speedo. I'm getting my FR500 Exhaust and a custom chip install this week. Wanted to break in the gears first... so the custom chip will do the compensation.

I was looking down and saw WOW, I'm already at 80 the first time I forgot about the speed being off... ;-) Seconds later I remembered... lol.

But if you have an older one, like I had my 98 done too, it only cost like 14 bucks and the shop that put my gears in also put that on, but from what I saw it was hella easy.

what's the difference, speedo wise, between the stockers and the new gears?

i'm looking at some new gears myself, though not at strong as yours and i just wanted to know what to expect. :)

also, what kind of chip are you putting in? with my other vehicle, chips do absolutely nothing. are they actually beneficial with the cobras?

Im not sure about the speedo, but my break in period was over today, and OMG.. what a difference ;-) The beast has awakened.

I'm getting a S.M.A.R.T. Chip, whatever that is, I'm getting it to help stop the pinging, and I have a very rich mix at 5500 rpm and higher (see my dyno at http://dyno.isepic.com ) So, that along with advancing the timing at low rpm to increase low end power should be what I get with the chip. Also, its going to be dyno-tuned so hopefully it will be its worth. I didnt want to spend 125 for a speed-o compensator and then buy the chip for 200 more. Why not get both together? I'll use the chip more I'm sure as I ad more mods. But I'm getting the FR-500 Exhaust put in tomorrow and I'm told the chip will allow the program to be modified to take full advantage of the exhaust, among other things.

Hope this helps
(if I said anything wrong, please, people speak up! I'm a computer geek not a mechanic---YET! )
