Neutral switch/sensor?

I noticed that I hit the rev limiter way sooner than expected last night. From my SCT tuner I had neutral rev set to 5500 and drive rev set to 6450. It was hitting the limiter right at about 5500 rpm while messing around with a friend last night.

Is there a switch or sensor that tells the ECU when you're in gear? Only work I've had done recently is a new clutch, MGW shifter and swapped to 3.55 gears.

Possibly missed a connector on the trans. I want to say that the engine monitor's engine speed and transmission output speed to determine neutral for the purposes of nuetral rev limiting speed
