Not a big fan of VW but always liked Audi. I was thinking of getting ol reliable 2005-06 CRV but I know it will be boring as can be. I saw 2011-13 Audi Q5s are in my price range and it would be fun to mod and launch on the street.

But would it be reliable for a DD?

In my 23 years of driving and owning probably at least 10 different vehicles, the only vehicle that has left me and had to be towed was a 2010 VW with the 2.0T. Just my experience...

Ford Edge ST or older Sport? They're fun to drive.

The first couple of generations of the 2.0 (2.0 FSI and TFSI) are absolute garbage - unless you love to work on complex, poorly designed, 4 cylinder turbo charged motors in tight confines. If thats your thing, the 2.0 is your engine.

Now, I will say that when the 2.0 is running right, it performs really well for what it is. But it will only be running right 50% of the time or less.

I've owned a couple and torn down a couple of dozen.

After owning a Passat I'll never own another VW or Audi vehicle.

The car handled well for being FWD but working on it sucked. Just changing the oil was crappy even with a vacuum machine.

Dip shit engineers couldn't even design a valve cover properly that allowed you to easily refill the oil.

Don't get me started about the front brake job. Another massive engineering fail there too.

Working on it will be a pain and if you don't do your own work you'll get killed in labor.

Hard pass!

Yea I was on the market with the same idea and ended up with a Subaru Forester as my daily. It's very reliable and convenient, plus there's a huge aftermarket support and community. If you want, you can lower it and build a street XT (turbocharged 2.0L) or lift and go off-roading: Lifted Subaru Forester XT SJ Overland Off road Project
That's my daily as well. My only complaint about it is the auto start stop feature. I need to buy the relay setup that permanently disables it.

Im not sure its the same model but one of them had issues with engines spontaneously catching on fire. I went to a body shop that nearly burned to the ground during the night. Fire started in one of those. One of the fire investigators told me its a known issue with that model.

I had an A6 in which the ABS computer got wet and the brakes went out.

I was on the freeway and came up on stopped traffic only to find the pedal hard as a rock.

I switched the ignition off and put it in park. It slowed me down in time but I am seriously lucky to be alive.
