I am not on my parents pocketbook. I have a job now to cover my finances for college. I don't want prestige. Yeah I would like to work for a goldman sachs but I dont have to have it. I could care less about my salary right now either. I'm not worried about banking on money now, I know that will come with time.

Of all the jobs I have had, working for my parents has been the worst. I get treated as a normal employee out in the field. Since day 1 of college, I have done my best to cover my own ass in college. So why don't you not go ahead and assume I live off mommy and daddy.

alright, i'll give it to you straight.

You are graduating during a recession that stemmed from a crisis in the credit markets. You have a moderately above average GPA from a school not especially known for its finance program. You have what looks to be zero finance experience, you are being especially picky for no reason, and you are running out of time. Where were you during the recruiting season. I know some second tier banks had to have made it down to UofF.

I don't care how your daddy treats you on the job. A prospective employer will see that you worked for your father (not taking a risk) and did something unrelated to finance. Thats not exactly going to rock their socks off.

There are thousands and thousands of more qualified people out there that are not finding jobs, and taking stuff they don't want/like. Yet you, fresh out of college think you can just waltz into something that suits you perfectly.

Lets face it, with your attitude, you will be working for daddy for a long time, so have fun.

****ing kids these days...sheesh

joke?

Science may be fun and all, but you don't want to compare high level banking execs to scientists in terms of salaries.

Maybe. but at the end of the day wtf can 'Business' people say they have done for the people? Answer Nothing, they have perpetuated greed, that is about all. Anyway  to you Quad, If I could meet you in person I would.

I thought of a choice line for the other "new job" thread, but I need some more activity in there to make it worth it.

oh, and p.s., they have provided the financing for scientists to do the cool shit they can do.

Wow!!! All I can say is WOW!! I don't know what you're thinking here bud....as far as others are saying about your attitude or your belief in landing a great job for the first time, it ain't gonna cut it man. You must be in la la land. I went through the same when I was younger as an Architect and where is this taking me?? NOWHERE, even with GPA of 3.95 and I wound up working for Human Services and owning my own Business. Right now you're just plain stuck and you're NOT the only ones out there. There are literally thousands that are in the same boat as a majority of them. Best is to own a business as you love to be a leader. Look into it or you can PM me and I'd be glad to help out since I love to help others in Entrepreneurship. I am an entrepreneur myself.

eh maybe, but those NSF "business" types are more government workhorses than true blue 'business' types IMO. Anyway more power to you, and g/l with the whole economy thing. The government offers great pension programs, and IF they go bankrupt we are all uber ****ed.

Stallion999, you really need to listen to Quadcammer. He speaks the truth.

I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and my first job was night shift production supervisor working 3PM to 3AM, 6 or 7 nights a week. This was not where I thought I would start my career but I considered myself lucky and was very grateful for this job. Now, 13 years later, I'm doing pretty well for myself and my family. Starting out your career might suck but you gotta do it. It takes brains, a good work ethic, persitance and patience to get where you want to go. You need to learn that in school before you graduate.

All is not lost. I have a BSBA with a certificate in Finance and Marketing. My "specialty" for over 20 years has been the back end of the financials in collections, recovery, foreclosure, repossessions, charge-offs and debt sales. Look at finance with a wider view and there will always be a ton of opportunity for someone to work hard, learn quickly and grow with market demands. Good luck.

I graduated college in 99 with a degree in computers. This was right at the time of the dot com bust. I ended up running porn sites and making bank!
