I have a 96 cobra with a procharger p1-sc. I was driving the car down the street and I decided to down shift and the car reved to 7100 rpm then shut off. Car won't start and black smoke comes out the back. Is it a blown engine or something else?

Thanks

Black smoke usually indicates that the car air fuel/ratio is too rich

Possible symptoms:
1. Clogged Air Filter
2. Mass Air Flow Sensor
3. Throttle Position Sensor
4. Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

Something more extreme would be clogged catalytic converters, when a converter is plugged, the pressure in the exhaust system builds up to the point that the intake vacuum drops. This causes the mass airflow sensor to think there is a problem in the engine and set a code.

Let us know what you find.

the car just cranks but wont start and there is no engine codes. my buddy told me that if the teft light flashes rapedly when the car is trying to start it means that theres a problem with the chip. thats whats happening
