Need help locating a 30 yr family members car

Team, figured Id throw this on the svtwebs.

Trying to locate the vin to my family members car.

I have the plate id, but of course it isnt registered anymore. Im going to call the AK DMV, but if you have a better idea, plz let me know.

Well, ak dmv can locate the vin but they wont give it to me.
