Need An Alternator

My car has been down a while and last time I had it checked the alternator needed replaced. It's a DD and I drive easy on it. What alternators should I check out? Typically I'd go with a $190 from Autozone/O'Reilly but is that the best bet?

I've seen some on RockAuto for $100-200. Are those the same as the Autozone? One thing I like better about the local is the warranty exchange is easy if something goes wrong, but for what may be more money, is it worth it?

Find a local rebuilder. Probably just brushes, cheaper, you will get the right amp alt back. and all the bolt holes will line up.

If you can change your own oil then you can rebuild a 4g alternator.

There's really not much to them and besides a socket set the only other special tool you'll need is a paper clip.

I assume for a 2001 Cobra I need the 4G? It's listed as the 98-04 4.6 DOHC.
