Fun Ford Shuts Down - UPR Steps Up!
04/13/2009 by NED News
American Autosports Productions, producer of Fun Ford Weekend and Battle of the Brands is cancelling its 2009 racing series. A decline in attendance and race entries forced the decision.
Although that's bad news for followers of one of New England Dragway's most popular events, there is some good news thanks to UPR Products. Mark Mainiero, President of UPR is stepping up to take on the title sponsorship of the inaugural Ford Fest event that will fill the void left by Fun Ford's departure. "New England Dragway's Fun Ford event was one of the best we had over the years. It has a strong following and I couldn't let those fans be disappointed by the recent news. We'll help continue the tradition of making this remain a great event not only for racers, but show car enthusiasts and fans alike," stated Mainiero. The new event will remain in the August 15 - 16 weekend slot.
Mainiero and UPR is only one of several who will work towards making the event a success. The New Hampshire Mustang Club will coordinate the car show that was always a big part of the Fun Ford program. In addition to the vendor and show support Steve Turner, editor of 5.0 Mustang Magazine is sending well known writer Michael Johnson to cover the weekend.
Many features associated with Fun Ford Weekend will continue in Ford Fest. The weekend will include three bracket racing categories, an eliminator similar to True Street and car show. Track officials are working on several heads-up formats. A detailed breakdown of event components will be released later this month.
