But will they make a hit if you roll up to them and count off "Juan, two, three!"?

So what exactly are the legalities to owning a restored/original SSP that still contains its proper markings, most of the equipment, etc.?

I'm FAR from an expert, but I do browse some SSP foxbody stuff from time to time. Biggest issue I know is that at least in FL, it is illegal to have a car painted the same colors as FHP, so you can not have a restore FHP mustang in FL. If you live in Georgia, well their highway patrol use different colors (blue/white I think) so they don't care about black and tan cars.

Regarding the texas state car posted above, most folks who own a SSP will have the door graphics and fender graphics done on a large magnet, used for shows. Take those off and it's just a dual colored car.

Regarding the lights up top for some SSPs, well I know I've seen some pics of folks with a large form fitting canvas type bag over them when driving the car. What color bulbs you have in place might be another issue perhaps.

In terms of the CB/shotgun rack...nothing illegal about those.

As said, I would love to have a black/tan SSP, no lights up top and magnets for the graphics...but simply the dual color of black/tan is illegal in FL. Oh well. If I ever move... :)

That's pretty interesting. I wonder if it's the exact same color code or if you could do one a slightly different tan color.

in the case above, they are actual graphics on my nephews Texas car, he covers them with painters tape when he drives it, it doesn't have lights though. he does have the radar setup he displays for shows. He is a PA state Trooper so I'd imagine he could drive it here and there locally with the graphics uncovered but he never has. he had the car at the tail of the dragon in April, he said he couldn't stop anywhere without people admiring it, they are very popular these days. to touch on the legalities, as said it is illegal in Florida and Texas because they still use those colors

If pulled over under whatever law it is, I wouldn't want to be on the side of the highway arguing pigment or shades. :)

There has to me more to the law than black and tan though. Perhaps, those colors can't be in the same pattern as FHP. Just trying to wrap my head around the idea of the law.
