short story:

Hood flew open on the highway. Broken windshield, wipers, hood.

After calming down, and getting back on the road. Car overheats. Coolant running out of the resevoir. The car's temp would spike and would not cool down while running on the hwy. Also, my fans would NOT run. The car would not run anymore.

It was left at a gas startion. It will be going to the dealer tomorrow on a tow. Hopefully, I wont be forced to drive it anymore.

My other problems:

TOB - 3 times
New Tranny
Steering Creeking
Front Pop
Rear Pop
Rear Clunk
Diff Leaking

EDIT: And now!!!

Thermostat
Hood Latch (denied warranty by Ford)

What do you guys think? A Cobra? Or something new?

Clunk is normal. There's no reason they can't fix the other problems except for the TOB. TOB is a pain in a lot of peoples asses, mine included.

Get rid of the car. There's no reason to keep a car you don't like. Sorry to hear of your problems.

What's clinking calipers?
I've never heard of that one on this forum but I wonder if that's what I'm hearing on mine. I just got my 03 a few weeks ago and so far it pulls to the left, vibrates at 60-65(probably tire balance), stalled for the second time this morning(only when it was real cold), and it makes a weird clinking noise while cruising down the road. If I push in the clutch it doesn't go away and it doesn't do it when the car is stopped. I sounds a lot like the clink/pop sound you hear when you shut off a hot motor.
I'm taking it in to the dealer next week.

I love this car. It's by far the best of the 9 Mustangs I've had but in it's first month I've got more problems than all the others put together. I hope the 05 Mustang doesn't have this many problems or it's gong to be a big embarrassment for Ford.

Sorry you are have such bad luck; it sounds like you got a lemon. I have a first run '03 and have had no problems with it at all.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks guys....

The Mach One is a SWEET car. However, I really do love the Cobra. I am looking at a lemon in my eyes. Maybe the dealership will give a good deal on an 04... Too bad there is no more sonic...

BTW: That post at the begining of the thread was my 500th post. Way to set it off huh?

Poor Sam. Lemon or not, I agree its time for a new car. Cars that have been repaired a billion times are never quite the same. I will miss this car though, its like a member of the family. Great incintive to get the '73 working again!

Has anyone ever heard of a technical problem that would cause the hood to fly up like that? I am perplexed, but VERY GLAD YOU'RE NOT HURT!!!

The 73 is getting worked on Monday. I hopefully will NOT have to drive my rental. But I damn well will be keeping it.

I dont know if it qualifies for a lemon yet. Hopefully the dealership and regional ford guys are not feeling stingy. However, I have a feeling that if it isn't lemoned this time it will be soon.

That sucks that you've had so many problems man. I feel for ya. FWIW I have a first run car #565 and have had none of the problems I hear most people talking about. I guess I just got lucky. I hope you can solve your problems. Good luck and hang in there!

Thanks, Im hangin in. This is a second run car. It seems that if you have one problem you will eventually have more. I thought my car was flawless when I got it. Well, I was wrong. The odometer is just pas 9000 and the car is only 7 months old.

The Car is a second run...

Today the RE came in and stated that the mechanism worked properly and was NOT defective. So Ford says that my insurance will have to cover the cost of my windshield, wipers, and hood.

I have spoken with everyone I can. Brick walls everywhere. THis is COMLPETELY unnacceptable. I dont see why I will every buy a Ford again. This is my family's 17 or 18th Ford... I have had 2 73 Mach Ones, my brother has a 2002 GT, we had a probe, an escort, 2 Explorers, 6 Expedtitions, Taurus(es), T-Bird, the list goes on...

I am extremely distraught and feel like I could kill right now.

MY 2003 Cobra has been in the shop 4 times. A total of around 15 days... it only has 9k miles.

It seems like the only way anyone will listen is if you file a lawsuit. Customer Service is a joke.

Oh yeah, the dealership is absolutely worthless.

They are hardly willing to even listen to me, let alone help me. When I told them about my incident the only thing they were interested in was who would pay the tow fee. Not "Holy crap, your hood came up ON THE HIGHWAY!!"

It seems like this is indicative of any car company. Remember BMW of NA and the problem they were having with their M3's blowing up on them? with less than 5k on the clock? Well BMW of NA gave a big F-U to their consumers... Just Like Now...

Time to pull out the GA lemon law book and start reading... there are some funny requirements that YOU must follow to force their hands. If you play the game right they have to give you a refund or replace the car. If you do not do your part they get a ton of chances to fix the car. At least that is the way it is in Florida.

Good luck.

The Law here is 15days in the shop in the first year, 30 days total in two years. Or a safety repair to the steering/brakes. OR 3 Failures to fix the same problem.
