Well…you know the old saying, “You may not be able to find one single place on your vehicle to lose 100 lbs but rest assure you can find over a hundred places to lose 1 lb!”

Since every 100 lbs is good for approx. a tenth or so in the ¼ mile (or the equivalent to 10 HP), I’ve decided to remove some of the extra weight in my Cobra!!! Please note that I went ahead and used an everyday digital bathroom scale, so by no means are these numbers exact/accurate.

Not all of these items have been removed but I went ahead and weighed as much as I could for informational purposes!!!

Enjoy…

hood liner 1.2 lbs
mott bar 8.4*
rear seat head rest 4.8
rear seat back 25.2
rear spkr enclosure 22.6
child seat restraint anchor .8
rear deck spkr cover 3*
rear seat bottom 11.8
rear seat side panels 7.2 (3.6 ea.)*
rear seat side window panels 2.4 (1.2 ea.)*
rear seat belts 5 (2.5 ea.)
sound deadening (rear seat to trunk) 2.4
jack 5.2
spare rim/tire 26.8
lug wrench 1.6*
trunk rug/mat 6.4*
trunk trim panels 4.8
stereo head unit 5.6
lower door spkrs 4.4 (2.2 ea.)
upper door spkrs 1.2 (.6 ea.)
driver’s seat with motor & slider 63*
passenger seat with manual slider 43.4*
my tool bag 23.8*
high flow cat upgrade 22.6 (stock 36 lbs-high flow magnaflow x pipe 13.4 lbs=22.6 lbs savings)
Cobra R front calipers (loaded) 8.8
Cobra OEM front caliper
Cobra OEM rear caliper 4.4
Cobra R front rotor 19.4
Cobra OEM rear rotor 12.6

* means…I did not remove *

Total weight savings of the removed stuff to date: 144.4 lbs (UPDATED 11/1/2008)

At the track, I’ll remove the passenger seat and trunk mat…that’ll be good for an additional 50 lbs or so!!!

I’m also looking into light weight aftermarket seats, I could save 50-60 lbs just by replacing both OEM seats with composite replacements!!!

I’ll keep ya posted…

Later…Dave

after removing all that stuff did it make the interior noise alot louder with the windows up? Do you now here any other creeks or rattles after removing everything?

Even with the straight shot from the trunk to passenger compartment, it really isn't that bad!!! Once I put a RSD kit in to seperate things, it'll only get better!!!

My previous Fox 5.0's seemed to be much louder once the parts started coming out. I guess this has to do with the nature of the tighter SN-95 platform and bump friendly IRS suspension???

Removing the sound deadening really didn't save much weight but it really didn't make much of a sound difference either...kinda like spitting hairs IMO!!!

Overall I happy but noise comfort is not such priority with me anyways!!!

LOL...OK, you will do.......

I was J/K before, although I suppose it is something to consider. Say a Cobra owner was overweight/obese and was intrested in the weight of his/her car. One place that should not be overlooked would be the driver himself.

Here's what I'm without when going to the track. My SEKA scale read a few things a little lighter.

Spare tire...........................-26.4 lbs
Jack/crow bar......................-6.6 lbs
Trunk pad...........................-6.0 lbs!
Mott bar (under diff).............-7.8 lbs
Front sway bar/brackets.......-12.4 lbs
Rear seat bottom.................-11.0 lbs
Rear seat back....................-25.6 lbs
Rear seat head rest..............-5.6 lbs
High flow catted midpipe........-22.6 lbs! (stocker=36.0, High flow=13.4)
Odyssey battery/bracket.......-22.2 lbs (stocker=37.6, Odyssey=15.4)
Front 3.5" ProStars...............-40.0 lbs (stock w/ F1's=49.8, Skinnies/spacers=29.8 each)
Rear DR 16" w/ ET Steets......-18.0 lbs
UPR K member kit.................-65.0
Total.................................-269.2 lbs!!!

Notes:
-I run a cardboard rear seat delete at the track (tacky I know....), but be careful with the weight of the rear seat delete kit you may buy. Some are 12+ lbs.
-Didn't get to weigh my Off road H pipe (it's on the car!), but can probably only deduct 1-2 lbs for one....The Magnaflow catted X is light!
-Interesting info: OEM Chrommies w/ Nitto 315's = 52.4 lbs, OEM polished w/ MT 275's = 53.4 lbs, Diamond Racing 16" rims w/ ET Streets = 44.4 lbs

Thanks for all the info...you've been my weight loss inspiration since I started on these boards!!!

I'm glad that our numbers are real close...I was wondering about my scale's accuracy???

I have the Magnaflow Catted X-pipe installed. I never had the chance to weigh it...is it 13.4 lbs???

Like a dumb ass, I also forgot to weigh my Dynomax 3" CB. I would imagine that is heavier than stock???

My goal is at least 200 lbs and with a seat upgrade and removing the spare tire equipment...I should be there!!!

Dave, yeah that Magnaflow midpipe is 13.4 lbs. I just went long tubes and need to weigh the stock manifolds and MAC off Road Prochamber for LT's. The headers weighed 26.2 lbs all together.

And I betcha the stock catback is close to your Dynamax setup.

Good job Dwight - that would put your car at around 3400lbs:rolling:

The crazy thing Kel is that my race weight, when additions (steel flywheel, FLSFC, IRS Brace), are factored in, plus 1/4 tank of gas and my fat ass, is still right at 3,700 lbs. I guess it's better than 4,000 lbs, but still a lot of weight......

Yeah, I hear you to bad a guy couldn't get this car down to 3000lbs. I would like to get a bit leaner and drop to 200lbs.

Imagine how much of a tank this car is compared to my FFR Cobra replica. That car only weighed 2350lbs. with every option I could add to it! My new vert feels like a caddy by comparison!
