How do you only get 25 years for stabbing someone 193 times while they're tied-up?

my question still stands, as of now, sentancing is not based on a judges' discretion (sp?:bash: ) but rather on what the convictions are, what the hell happened to mandatory sentancing? was she not convicted of some of the crimes?
