I don't think you mentioned if the SS is an LS1 or LT1.

Coming from experience (used to own a modded 01)...
If it's an Lt1 then the Cobra wont have a problem.

If we're talking about an LS1 then it depends whether it's an M6 or A4. M6 from a roll should be a fairly close race with the Cobra barely winning. A4 (you mentioned he was stock so I'm assuming no converter) from a roll and the Cobra will beat the SS pretty good ...probably by 2 cars. Good luck with the race.
Later.

Just from experience. My A4 Z with catback and lid and 2.73s took a 99 Cobra, 5 speed from a dig and from a roll. He had basically the same mods but 4.10 gears. Didnt take him by much. Car and a half.

Stock LS1.........Depends on the driver.
Stock LT1..........Definitely the Cobra.

LS1 puts out more power, and I think it is a aluminum block so its lighter.

Some people are calling it the most efficient engine ever, Gm pulled a lot of horses out of the engine. I kind of like to think of it as what the Ford 5.0 is to the 4.6 DOHC engine.

So the LS1 does put out more horsepower than the LT1...And how do you know if a camaro is an LS1 or Lt1?

lt-1's are 93-97. 93-94 have 285 flywhp, 95 has 295, 96 295 (1st year of the ss 305 hp), 97 same as 96.

ls-1's started in 98 and came with an under rated 305 flywhp, the ss models had 320. Some like the firehawk and 02 ss have an optional 345 hp. They all weigh near 3400 lbs.

lt-1's tend to run 14.4-13.7 depending on driver.
ls-1's tend to be closer to 13.8-13.1 depending on model and driver.

Mine stock with lowest hp rating turned a 14.0 bone stock.

Cobra should beat aa lt-1 but not an ls-1. I have beaten 3 near stock 01 cobra's (cai, exhaust) with current mods.

93-95 were rated at 275 and in 96 they switched to obd-2 and dual cats and the horsepower went to 285. i myself haven't had trouble with 01 cobra's with the basic bolt-ons. from my experience i bleieve the SS will win but not by too much. your gears really help out alot.

Twice from a roll today - shiny newer red SS.
1 - Second gear 40 to 55, almost even, pretty pathetic considering that they are stonger in the lower RPM range.
2 - Got him to slow down for a first gear run 20 - 40, pulled away easily had to make left turn, he waved as he drove away, I wonder how he interpreted the outcome.

Cobra redline 6800 RPM
ls1 redline 5700 RPM to 6000 RPM depending on year.

a celica gt-s redlines at 8300 rpm. are you saying a celica can take a cobra or an ls1? just because it redlines that high doesnt mean it has better top end
