I got 4 quarts of Mobil 1 5W30 Truck & SUV and I got 2 quarts of Mobil 1 5W30. It would be alright to mix these wouldn't it? The only difference I see is the Truck & SUV type can be used on the same engines as standard Mobil 1, PLUS diesel engines. Since its for harder working engines Id imagine it would be a little thicker and mixing different viscosities might be a factor. Not a motor oil specialist, sorry.

i dont think anyone here will know. ive never even heard of Mobil 1 for trucks/suvs. just Mobil 1 and Mobil 1EP. it could just be a marketing gimmick (which is mostly like the reason). with the rising costs of oil, im sure Mobil 1 has experienced some losses in sales. im sure a large part of their customer base has opted for less expensive synthetic brands lately.

try posting your question here http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

it is where oil is discussed more than anywhere else on the web. hth

i know. that's why im saying its probably just a marketing gimmick in their feeble attempts to sway customers who have switched to less expensive synthetics such as Castrol or whatever. a buddy and i recently discussed how the oil companies (automotive oil) must be tightening their belts up. usually, every sunday you can find Pep Boys ads that have rebates on synthetic oil (usually Castol or Penzoil) that make it about the same price as regular oil. they havent run these weekly rebate ads in a LONG time (8 months?) and they USED to be weekly (for the most part).

im thinking its a marketing gimmick because you have Joe Blow consumer who puts 91 octane in his Ford Explorer and nothing but the BEST oil. well he is now cutting back and buying Castol GTX because its $1.50 a quart less than Mobil 1, but still fully synth. but wait, he sees this new Mobil 1 product that says its "specially formulated" for trucks/suvs. maybe he should try that instead. maybe that is better for his SUV than standard full synth.

ive read that supposedly it makes a sliiiight difference with higher mileage vehicles because full synth is really thin and might leak. but if youre talking new car vs new suv, it shouldnt make a difference.

im no engineer or mechanic but i have had a few discussions on topics like this with those who are. im just speculating here but i think it really is a plausible answer. :read:

btw, supposedly, Mobil 1 is now partial synth and Mobil 1 EP is fully synth. something about a recent court ruling that allows these companies to claim that their near full synth is "synthetic". that's just hearsay that ive read in a few different places.

that website i listed will probably have the most up-to-date and accurate info you'll find anywhere though.
